Traffic jam

We must have seen some 30 boats going out over the bar in the space of about 15 minutes this morning. I'm surprised there was enough space out there to drop a line. Things usually settle down a bit after New Year's, when most people have to head back to work .

Wow, that's beautiful. I'm sure it's even more so without the boats.

One of the things I really miss, being a grown-up and living elsewhere in the country now, is coming here midwinter. I should do that again someday.

Is it still pretty mild in mid-winter? I'd guess you're far enough north that it is, unlike Christchurch or Dunedin.

Midwinter daytime max temperatures I would guess average 8-10 C, with rain usual. You (well I) probably wouldn't want to swim.

Yeah, that's getting on toward cool. 10 C is about my lower limit for swimming. I much prefer 20.
