ALE

My lovely friend Blair gives fantastic backrubs. He's also crazy good with computer stuff of all sorts, never stops coming up with ideas that make you think "Hey, that might just work, and it would be way cool if it did", and actually follows through on some of these ideas. I think that the last attribute is the rarest and most unusual.

So tonight he comes home with me, and I feed him chicken and salad in exchange for a backrub. Before we get to the backrub bit, he says "I want to try this out." "This" turns out to be ALE, an image processing program that allows noise reduction, resolution enhancement and a number of other nifty things we intend to explore in due course, by combining a number of input frames. In order to test this thing out, however, first we needed a set of relatively noisy test images. That? That I can do.
Here are the "before" images. I will show you the "after" images when Blair can persuade ALE to write a file we can read with something other than the image viewing utility on his Linux box.

Work in progress....
