It's just a little turbine, 0.23 megawatts, but you can walk right up to the base of it. My imagination started working overtime when I crossed the plane of the blades.

Do you have a lot of them there? In California there are places where hundreds are grouped together in "wind farms."

If that's the one I think it is, it's on a hill above Wellington, and it's the only one in that particular location.

We're starting to get the development of wind farms here, and I think it's a good thing.

Not terribly many as yet. There's quite a lot of resistance to the building of new infrastructure of this sort - rampant nimby-ism mostly backed up by the Resource Management Act. Personally, I want to ask wether the objectors would prefer a nuclear power plant. It's not insurmountable though, ground was broken on a new wind farm at Makara, behind Wellington only a few days ago.

This one was built more as a proof of concept over 10 years ago.

Looks like a pretty ambitious program, given the relatively small size of New Zealand. I continue to be impressed.
