I had an .... interesting conversation with this old bloke in the park who was sketching designs for . I'm willing to believe what he had to say about art nouveau stained glass and bad business dealings in Upper Hutt. I'm less willing to believe the bit about two doctorates, the Asian prostitution rings, and the out-of-work mathematical/pedagogical genius in Hawaii.

Yet - #1 is, so very simply, a truly good face portrait. The lines and creases and hair tell us here is someone who has lived. He is quite assured in making eye contact with the viewer (through your lens, your eyes). So who knows, there may well be two doctorates and they may involve mathematical genius in or out of Hawaii. I'm certainly willing to allow the strong probability of some involvement in an Asian prostitution ring.
Perhaps that's simply because I've met more than my share of characters.
The fourth is interesting for other reasons. Is he conducting an orchestra? drawing on the air? pointing to something we (viewer) can not see as it is off-camera?
