I just caught the end of the parade after going out for dinner. Great atmosphere. Note to self for night shooting. It's supposed to be dark. Tell the camera to expect that, and you'll end up with fewer shots unusable due to movement blur.
I'm not saying that some blur is not a good thing - but I got about ten shots I'd show anybody, of about 200, and there were good opportunities wasted because I didn't think. It's a lesson for next time.
Oh, keep the frustration by all means. For the very reason you cite. When I started off, shooting film that provided 12 frames/roll, I was happy when I reached a point where 1% of the frames provided me something I considered worth while.
Which, since I also wanted to be a nice, frugal fellow, kicked up the frustration level on not wasting film!

It is, in the long run, a two-part answer.
