I know places where a lot of these are growing. This, from a few days ago, is kawakawa, and there is onionweed around the water feature.

There was a local cook in Dunedin who got so sick of the wild onions (local name for onionweed) in her garden that she pulled the lot up and pickled them! She said the looks on people's faces when she told them where she got the "cute little onions" were priceless!

She said they were. I never got to try one, but I've never been much for pickled onions in any case.
