Actually I remember the flower as being a deeper, darker red and less orangy as well. I think it's a monitor response thing - I've been reading a bit around colour theory and monitors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamut) - and I think that it's just that monitors don't get down as far into the red as our eyes can pick up. I don't know about the colour response of commercial cameras, but I'm guessing they suffer from a similar problem. The diagram in the Wikipedia article is for a CRT, but I found one for an LCD and it's not very different.
