Anticipating cake

I made a rather successful carrot cake on Friday, using up the last of the vanilla extract in doing so. Instead of just buying some more, I thought I'd have a go at manufacturing some of my own, so here we have 3 Tahitian vanilla beans submerged in about 300ml of inexpensive vodka. Don't worry, I'm not storing it in full sunlight on the windowsill, that's just for the photograph. It's gone into the back of the cupboard where it'll stay for the next couple of months or, more likely, until get the urge to bake and I remember it exists.
