Fairy boat




When I was at intermediate school, therefore about 10 or 11 years of age, I was accused by one of my teachers of being whimsical. I remember being somewhat offended by that at the time. It's still not part of my self image, but I guess I have my moments.

Yes, there were times as a child I would of preferred if someone took me a bit more seriously. On the other hand, I suspect it didn't happen because even then my sense of humour was being nurtured by my Uncle John rather directly, and my father somewhat indirectly.

After all, as someone noted, while there was artillery in the 16th C, very few of those pieces used brass shells...
